Someone You'll Miss

from Nottingham & Devon by Logan Wood

lyrics

Uh
Good morning
Today is a day that’s very important
But you don’t know it
Flying to the city where your dreams lay dormant
Awaiting orbit
Step out to your parents porch and say your goodbyes
Father’s teary eyed - mirrors of mine
He’s letting you go, keep all your fears inside son
And you’ll be fine son
But dad, who will I be when my time comes?

He said
“I want you to be someone you’ll miss”
“Your heart is on your sleeve please don’t forget”
I said “I just wanna be someone more than this, more than me”

Uh
So when I hit that road away from home
I prayed that I wouldn’t sell soul
Slowly wrote about the days away spent on my own
All alone in my dorm room, no one knowing what I’m going through
Wonder how my friends at home had grew
Guess I’ll know soon when I finally fly home next
Told ‘em everything here’s going fine out west
Writing rhymes as therapy, that’s how I express my emotions
And I’ve coping alright I guess but I confess:
My dreams were bigger than tracks
I wanna be like Doom or Lupe
Even if that means I kick and push myself ‘till I’m speaking in rap
I set a mic up and I loved the feeling I had
When my own beat came on, poured my small heart out
Recorded my first song, called “It All Starts Now”
But I worried ‘bout people’s thoughts, would it all fall down?
I called my mom up she said “you gotta calm those doubts”

She said
“I want you to be someone you’ll miss”
“Your heart is on your sleeve please don’t forget”
I said “I just wanna be someone more than this, more than me”

Uh so I thought about that
Long and hard, and I came to the conclusion
My music’s already more than me
And if people don’t like it
Then, they don’t deserve my attention

I’m ascending, been chillin’ in a new rhyme dimension
Not to mention my intention’s never really for the money or the pension
The direction on my compass is spinning in a random circumference
Cuz mentally I’m at the top already with my abundance of rhymes
If you ain’t get that last line, go get magnetized
Clean flows my favourite past time, got y’all sanitized
Santa’s eyes see more presence in me than half the nights he’s delivered gifts
Think about it, man: I’ve maximized my potential
Talent central nothing else but pad and pencil
Mind and matter
I would rather write for life ‘till the final chapter
I don’t have another vision
Tunnelled out like the Egyptian pyramids
Ancient inscriptions
What they read: I’m a missing piece to this rap puzzle
Talking smack? Bitch get a muzzle
Make it double cuz you’re talking out your ass
It ain’t subtle to understand I’m a prophet
My parents saw it
I brought this from nothing
Promise I’ll always be someone that I’ll miss
Uh

Someone I’ll miss, someone I’ll miss, someone, someone I’ll miss
Someone, someone I’ll miss, someone I’ll miss, someone I’ll miss
Someone, someone I’ll miss
Someone I’ll miss, someone I’ll miss, someone I’ll miss, someone, someone I’ll miss,
Someone I’ll miss, someone, someone I’ll miss
Someone I’ll miss, someone, someone I’ll miss
Yeah

Stay closer to your family
They’re all you’ll have sometimes
